    Hi,

I have a mk1 golf Gti Karmann Cabriolet. It has been causing me problems ever since we bought it but this 1 we just cannot solve.
We have recently rewired the petrol pump through a switch as it was getting no electric and ever since the engine doesn't run properly. When you first start it up it seems ok and it can be left running with no problems, but it seems as soon as it get warmed up, when you accelerate or brake it loses power and cuts out. It is very tempremental. Some times it will start straight away and drive off again but more recently it wont start at all. If you leave it for bout 10 mins it will start again but as you go to drive off it will cut out again. We have had to coil changed but it hasn't seemed to make a difference. We are now thinking of changing the fuel pump as nobody can see what wrong with it.
Has anybody got any ideas as we at our wits end???

    Anything would be much appreciated.

Two Mark 1's we've owned have had a similar kind of problem, although ours would lose power and cut off randomly before not starting at all. It was the filter inside the fuel tank that was causing the problem. It wasn't a Cabriolet, but the filter in the Rabbit Golf Mark 1 was under the back seats at the drivers side. Worth a try.
