advice on touran 2.0 tdi engine

hi guys,
looking at multipole cars at the min, but one is a touran 2.0 tdi sport.
do these have common faults i need to be aware of like the balance shaft / oil pump issue?

oil pump issues were sorted 58 plate onwards

The BKD engine has a conventional oil pump and no balancer shaft system and does not suffer from oil pump failure issues, I can't understand where people get the idea that the Golf 5 and Touran are subject to this issue as the Passat is, they are different engines.

I can. When almost every mainstream model in the VW and Audi ranges has a 2.0 tdi version, most of us would quite easily assume they're all the same engine, or at least all based on the same engine. Which I suspect in truth they are.
If the troubles are only linked to components that relate to the differences between them, then of course confusion will reign trying to suss which has or hasn't got the faulty component or not.
Knowing your engine code is obviously essential. But I'd guess that as time moves on, other engine codes could develop the same or similar faults and end up added to the list. The list of passats suffering injector problems is pretty long, but I doubt they all suffered the fault at the same time.

Well at least it isn't as difficult to get your head around as it was trying to work out which Austin/MG C series engine is which! I suppose they are all EA827 series units but there are 8 and 16 v units and 16v PD and CR units and about the only thing that connects them all is the 88-mm bore centre spacing, there are multiple and huge variations and many parts are not interchangeable at least without modification.
