  1. Excess movement in steering column

    Hi there,

I'm a newbie to this forum, so please bear with me if I'm not too clear on any matter. I have a vw passat tdi 1.9 diesel n reg. The problem I have is that the steering wheel moves excessivly up and down by about 1.5cm. The steering column has the capability of being adjusted. This movement is still there even when the steering column has been locked in place. Does anyone have any ideas what needs to be replaced?

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,

    Zak

Most steering columns have an upper bush where the column passae thru the support bracket bolted to the bulkhead. When this bush is worn it allows the steering wheel to move up and down excessively
Its a Volkswagen. I'll drink to that

Thanks for your reply glynnd. Would you by any chance have a schematic diagram of the steering column for the passat model specified above?
