    Hi
Just bought a second hand polo (2001) privately at the weekend. rang dealer to arrange a service and was told that VW strongly recommend putting in a new camshaft in every car over 4 yrs old. I'm worried that there will be other things that come to light in this service. Is it strictly necessary to get a new camshaft? What do other users think? thanks Catbro.

    Hello There,

It is indeed true that VW recommend a camshaft drive/cambelt change after four years of its mechanical life and especially on 16v engines due to tensioners breaking/ failing, check to see if it has already been done or get a good technician to visualy check its condition/do some homework before you part with your hard earned cash

    Best Wishes
