I have misinterpreted this section of A8 Tech's instructions ...

What it means is that if you do the AMI MMI 3G retrofit DIY @ home when you go for a dealer software update which is MMI related it will be undone and you will need to recode it again ...

This occurs due to how when car is plugged into VAS and communication occurs between it and VAG server it will recode car to what it had out of factory, ie no AMI ...
Unless you get Audi to fit it?

If you get Audi to fit it the fitting dealer needs to update the server to include AMI to car data ...

The info for the retrofit @ the time posted by A8 Tech highlighted dealers were not aware of this retrofit ...

If they are now I have no idea and if they will update car data on server for you ...

In terms of installation for either of the part numbers we found I guess they're the same as the kufatec ones (http://pdf.ampire.de/kufatec/36739-2_englisch.pdf)

The eBay item Chris posted the link to earlier has part number 4f0051960 and is being sold by an Audi dealer.

A8 Tech & others work really hard IMO to provide or give this info and others rip their work off for their own gains, I know I for one appreciate their work A8 Tech & others...

This is part no for the retro fit kit at Audi ... so they have officially recognised the retro-fit ...

I have PM'd you the original thread concerning the retrofit, you will see it is dated April 2011 ...

Please follow instructions in PM and view info ... what you do is your choice ...

You have Kaufatec option = approx. £330
You have ebay dealer option = approx. £250
You have dealer route option = approx. £180

I feel we have given you enough info and you have found another guide which confirm A8 Tech's retro instructions...

    So I'm now ...

On that note, AMI is wired directly into the 5F unit. Jon said it's easy but I'm pretty sure you need some sort of activation dongle/update from Audi to enable the feature.

You can keep your changer as AMI is located on the roof of the glovebox and only the port is showing, unlike the 2G where its a seperate box.

Where I am up to following conversations with various Audi dealers and TPS:

4F0051960 is a full kit including SVM codes. Dealer supply, fit and code £480, supply only £335, coding only £86.81. TPS price supply only £179.17 (+VAT?).
4F0035909 and 4F1971086B are the components of the above kit. no codes or instructions come with these.

    What I'm doing now/next: waiting to hear back from my indy about coding;

From what I understand I can vag-com/VCDS it, knowing that the dealer will delete at service. When the car goes for service I will give Audi the codes etc for permanent coding. i'm confident that I can fit the cable myself, in fact it looks far easier than the reverse camera install I did on my previous Passat B6 (angle grinders were necessary!).

I think what happens at the dealer is when the car is hooked up to the Vag system any code differences are flagged for the tech to check against installed equipment where possible before allowing/deleting changes.
