    Hi all...

Still looking around at which A4 to get....I think I'm gonna go for the petrol engine due to my low annual mileage (unless I have a daftly-good diesel offer thrown at me... )

Should be ready to get the car in the next fortnight or so, but whilst looking at the various cars and spec's on offer, it struck me that though the super-duper 19" alloys will look great - the cost of replacing the tyres on them might take the gloss of them a bit!

I just did a very quick search for some and they were coming in at around £240 each....so got me wondering (as I've not yet decided on which car or size alloys etc)...what sort of prices are you guys paying for a replacement pair of tyres...and on what car/size alloy is that for??

Bearing in mind, that I'm moving 'upmarket' to Audi from my usual run-of-the-mill fords, vauxhall's (etc) runabouts... where replacing a tyre was a cheap-as-chips, 'anything will do' jobby....

When I do get the A4, I will be looking to get some proper 'decent' tyres - though they don't have to be the absolute top of the range 'ultimates'....just 'adequate' will do me

So roughly, what sort of prices have you recently had to spend to replace your tyres - and what size alloys & car were they for?

    Thx...

Depends on which size you're after?

    225/45/17 x4 Michelin PS3 cost me £420
    255/35/19 x4 Michelin PS2 cost me £1000

Avon ZZ5 on 19's, same as above 19" . £680 for 4. Had Pirelli on previously, these are quieter and have good grip.

far too much money. no wonder people run around on slicks. they might look nice but a grand for 4 tyres, its a family saloon after all.
i pay 65 each for avon zv3's, which are the best tyre out there.
oh, should mention i am running 15''.

Zolaf as much as I agree with you one place I never skimp is on tyres. You can have a great handling car top suspension but the only thing keeping you on the black stuff is your tyres!
That being said coming down to 18" you would see a substantial saving over 19" rims probably of about £100 on a set of 4 like for like.

this is the problem. so many people are tempted by the big alloys on cars, cheap finance, dealers eager to sell, car supermarkets with unbeatable px deals, then the person finds they need tyres and can't work out why 4 tyres are going to cost a grand. sure they look nice but they are a rich mans toy are 19'' rims.

Zol my Michelins on the A6 lasted 31k on the front - still 2mm showing on the rears.

I had 2x Goodyear Eagle F1s on the front before the Michelins and they lasted 12k and cost £402.50.

I bought my car outright and researched all running costs before even considering one and my heart was set on one.

This has been the most expensive car I bought and whatever it needs it gets to keep it right

When I first bought the car, Audi told me I would be lucky to see 15k out of a set, those miles were done 50/50 town/motorway and I only had to ditch the fronts due to poor alignment.

They had 2mm (as per the rears, even wearing ) left when removed.

I certainly got my moneys worth!

Saying that though wheels have been getting bigger for years in the last 20 years the average size of wheel has gone from 13" to 17" even super minis are running 17" wheels with low profiles.
Just a shame the road repairs haven't kept up!
