    Hi guys,
Am doing a DIY fuel filter change on my 2005 3.0tdi Quattro, have got old one out, put the new one in, filled it with diesel. Is that it or does to system require bleeding to rid it of air? Have read conflicting advice on the matter and don't want to damage the fuel pump.

    Hi mate ...

I did mine like this:- swap out FF > fill with fuel > connect up hoses > I ran vcds doing this Link:- Fuel Pump Basic Settings for PD, PPD, and CR TDI Engines - Ross-Tech Wiki

But I'm not convinced that that fuel pump ran with basic setting but engine did start after a few turn overs... was a little lumpy for a moment... but will self bleed, do not rev it ...

I feel the "Output tests" did engage fuel pump as I could hear it... Link:- Using VCDS / Vag Com to run engine test....

Should reprime itself...think about it in the same way as running out of fuel.

For completeness if it doesn't start after 2 mins of trying to turn over then put a charger/power pack on the engine bay points otherwise you'll flatten your battery.

There are some fail safes when engine is cranked ...

It will only crank for a period then stop it-self if engine not start, this is to stop starter motor from overheating ... you can then initiate start again, if car thinks you have ran it too many times and engine not started it will not let you crank engine unless a period elapses...

Another thing I noted when doing my injectors was that it advised the self bleed is done by initiating start process and then switching off ...
