Hey there guy's, I am a owner of a 57 plate passat tdi170 and have a few questions.

So here go's first of all its covered 145K with full vw history and runs what I would class as great. Just some minor things to check.
First of all I have a front left parking sensor on the blink which will only work when raining lol, I have the bi-xenon light package which seem to follow the steering but the left light is very low :/ and just only found out it had headlight washers when a fault code 00924 relay for headlamp came up, so i changed the fuse and no joy with getting the to work :/ and last but not least with the issue's she is constantly smoking from hot or cold on tick over, smells like unburnt diesel..

Just daft Q now i have a built it vw phone in the dash which i think will only connect via bluetooth to old nokia's would it be hard to get it work with a iphone ?

Any advice welcomed and thank you Jamie

I can't answer any of this for certain but,

Smoking on a 170 is bad, you have a DPF on that car that should stop smoke coming from the rear so if you are burning up a bad mixture I would check if it's had the injector recall yet (not sure yours was a problem so you must make sure it is a 170 and not a 140) easy check is your back box should be two large diameter pipes sticking straight out and not towards the floor,

BT isn't an easy thing and I've seen it many times with VAG cars that find each other but won't pair,

If you have a dim bulb it's going to need a new Xenon bulb which is a sit down price of over £100 unless you source one off the net then you can expect to pay around £45 for one and fit yourself, be aware though iirc you need the computer to align it correctly or put another way to reset it back to the home position.

Hey there thanks for the reply, it is the 170 even checked the exhaust pipe's to double check , and i have rang VW and they said it has had a injector recall . The bulb does not seem to be dim just seems to point on the floor, the right side is perfect.

With regards to the builtin in bt phone, mine will only connect to phones that have the remote sim protocol. My nokia (e7) has it and connects fine, my iphone 5 doesnt thus wont connect, has anybody got an iphone paired and working?

That would suggest the levelling motor is either broken/seized or someone has had the lamp unit out and either not refitted it properly or has broken the rear of the lamp,

Also and I bet this is it it has had a new bulb and it's not been fitted properly, they aren't the easiest of bulb to fit and sometimes when you think you have fitted it properly a bump in the road knocks it back out again, I would suggest removing the headlamp and check the bulb is located properly, this seems the more obvious reason.

Parking sensors are a frequent complaint, especially when wet or icy. But the problem is normally false alarms rather than a dead sensor. Some folks have tried a good squirt of WD40 to drive out the moisture.

The standard fit bluetooth with pop-out keyboard will work with most, but not all Nokia phones, the dumber the better. iPhone is no way, no chance, no how. Not even if you jailbeark it.

Some HTC, some Samsung, some Blackberry will connect usually/sometimes but it depends on which firmware and operating system plus the phases of the moon and what colour your car is. It will drive you nuts. My wife's Galaxy S4 will sometimes connect (then stuff things up for my Nokia), my daughter's S4 won't touch it. Phone manufacturers and network providers are useless, VW are even worse.

Look on the ICE part of the forum for "RCD510 review", which is a sticky. There are pages and pages of connection stories and tips.
