    hello there
was wondering what option i would have on a power plant swop on my golf 2, it currently runs a 1600 8v, would like a 1800 16v gti motor or similar wondering what option there are and how much stuff on the car would need changing.

    thanks in advance

yes to help you we need to know if the engine that is fitted is injection ?
if so this is much easier to build on than a carb model

    if it is a mk2 1600 then it's a carb engine
to swap to 16v gti you will need
    full fuel system
the engine wiring looms plus all other components i.e computer amplifier etc etc
    full exhaust system
16v engine and clutch plus gearbox (16v splines are different size ) could always use an early mk3 gti box better gearing and poss less miles same splines as 16v.
cooling system the radiator is bigger fan should be 3 pin 2 speed yours may only be 2 pin 1 speed
So basically you need a donor car and its a lot of work!
plus brakes and suspension if you want even a reasonable qoute from your insurers and be safe on the road too
you are limited to @165bhp unless you want to start spending a lot of dosh and then you might as well buy a crashed audi /passat and drop a 1.8 T in

hey people thanks for the replies so far
yes it is a carb engine it is a pierburg solex 2e2 carb on the 1600ez motor
so what you guys are saying is get a donor car, couple of mates, a long wknd and a crate or three of beer to do it.
bit of a nightmare in other words.

    cheers
