I have a Passat TDI 130 Diesel 2003 and the battery needs replacing.

Does anyone know the best type to get that fits and the approximate cost?

    Many thanks

Phone ATS & get a price, then check it against other fitters & a local motorfactor.
ATS will fit the battery, included in the price of battery.

I found that Halfords was the cheapest for my TDI 110

Heavy duty one was about £55

I was lucky, it was a special offer at the time, 30% off I think.

lol, at least your not lookin at putting induction kits on and stuff like that ,

    Only joking, ,

I got a replacement battery from costco, a few years back, cant remember how much, but it was circa 1/2 of what i'd been quoted at halfords.

Fair one, hey, at least it may do something for performance, I know not a great deal, but better than alloy look plastic etc

My brother goes on about redtops? and yellow tops? or whatever, he said I could have got one of those for a bit more.

I don't know, I'm not very mechanically minded, if it isnt fixed when you hit it with something, then time to go to the garage.

    Thank all of you who replied regarding my problem, here is my tale of woe;

Contacted my local ATS and they do not do batteries. Phoned around several other suppliers and could get one varying in price from £57 + VAT upwards depending on make size etc but they were generally supply only. I don't have the correct spanners to get to the fixings. I also wanted to get everything like the alternator checked out as well. So I contacted my local VW dealer and they quoted £69.34 +VAT so I thought as that would be the correct battery arranged for them to fit it.

When I got there the battery they had was too small and not the correct one for my model although I had given them all the info they requested about my car. As you can imagine I was not best pleased and remonstrated with them about having to go back again making a series of journeys totalling 50 miles and you guessed it the correct battery would be more expensive £93.66 + VAT.

They eventually agreed to get the correct battery and only charge me the £69 so I went back the next day.

The battery was fitted OK but "We have a problem with your car the bonnet lock will not function and if we shut it I would not be able to open it, and they don't have a replacement in stock". More remonstration and they agreed to take the lock apart and see if it could be repaired. Half an hour they had fixed it. Apparently it only needed greasing!

I would have expected a main dealer to be better than this, its not as if there are that many about. For the benefit of others I would suggest not using LINVALE Southend on Sea branch, I certainly will not be going there again.

So ends the tale (I hope).
