    Hi everyone

Got an Audi A6 2.5 TDi Quattro 2003 - getting used to it - made it to France and back.

I seem to be getting only about 28mpg - even on a long run and less around town - is this normal? I am not sure that the turbo is working?

I finally got hold of a Bentley manual for the car generally but of course this does not cover the engine as they have not got onto diesel in thirsty America, land of waste. Can anyone tell me where I can get hold of a manual or CD for the engine so that I can at least understand it - if not actually carry out a few tasks?

Overall I like the car but feel helpless that I have no clue as to how it works.

    Thanks in advance.

    Ian

Consider VAG-COM from http://www.ross-tech.com/ if you really want to do some diagnostic work.

    Hi there
I am driving an A4 quattro with the 2.5 V6 diesel, it is getting about 36mpg which i reckon is fairly hideous. I also have a friend with an A6 2.5 V6 diesel which is a 2001 and he is averaging 45mpg (motorway runs) and he is fairly light on the throttle.

They are not renown for being the best of engines for fuel consumption but 28 mpg on a long journey sounds dire.

I'd be tempted to put it in somewhere to see if there are any fault codes stored on the system. The MAF sensors are also famous for failing and can cause bad fuel consumption when they go. They are not expensive to replace.

How is the car running in general ? and how long since last service.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

The car is going well and I enjoy driving it so all good there.

I have contact with a travelling Audi mechanic who is recommended so I think that I will ask him to check the car over and see if there is anything wrong ie MAF sensor. Last service was at 60,000 now 68,000 so not too long ago but I do not have a lot of confidence in most garages/dealers.

I would like to think that I could get at least 35 on a long run - should be possible.

    Many thanks

    Ian

Been to Europe on hollyday trip and did 600+ miles on a tank, with speeds over 100 miles per hour and 4 people + luggage ! In London, i average 35-45 Mpg(fair bit of trafic and motorway), depending on how light me boots are !?! Thats with a 1998 a4 2.5 tdi quattro, 6 speed manual, with a PSI Motorsport chip on it as well. Also drove a heavy caravan last summer for over 4000 miles in Europe and never got less than 28-30 Mpg with the cruise control on and speeds of up to 80 miles per hour.

Hi, just new to this sight and I wish I'd checked it out before buying a 2.5tdi Allroad!

Less than a week after buying it (privately) it started to give me grief! Loss of power, sticking in third gear (only know this when I flip over to manual from Auto) is def going to cause an accident as when pulling out - it just dies!

Also wonder whether the mid 20's fuel 'economy' is a symptom of the problem??

It's booked into Edinburgh Audi on monday so will see what happens then...

I just keep seeing the ££££ signs flying around!

Have had the diagnosis from Audi and they say new air mass meter to be fitted. Am going to do this week as I've read this can also cause poor fuel consumption.

Will let you know how I get on.

Have had the car for two weeks now and have probably covered around 500 miles, so far I've put a hundred quid in the tank and it's about to beep at me again! (Am I expecting too much??)

Need a better paying job to keep this car!

    No-one ever brings me flowers!

Aah, good old Edinburgh Audi. I had a problem with my driver's window, popped open the door, and diagnosed I needed a new window regulator. I gave them a ring,

"Hello there, I need a new window regulator fitted on my A6, could you give me an idea how much that would cost?"
"Well, if you bring it in, they'll put it on the computer, which will be £90 + VAT, as it's at least a one hour job, then, depending on what the computer says is wrong with the car, parts and labour on top of that"
"Well, seeing as I've just told you what's wrong, surely you owe me £105, including VAT"
    "Eh?"
