    Hi all,

The below links to a retro kit for an original rear parking camera, it mentions in the notes at the end that coding is required and to speak to the dealer about this. Can this be done via VCDS?

I would guess so, yes. I'd hazard a guess that it will mean recoding one or two modules. Might be worth searching in the C6 section also - I seem to recall there may be one or two who have done this mod?

    Cheers!

I see no problem with coding that in!

Maybe a change in the CAN gateway and the parking module.

    Hi Chris,

Could you explain a little more? What is the CAN gateway etc?

    Thanks

Ignore what I said above, have found a copy of the installation instructions online and it also seems to have instructions at the end of how to do the coding through VCDS... Its in german but I believe there is an english manual floating about, flick to the last pages, this seems to be the VCDS coding, is this correct?

Yep that's the coding but through VAS - the dealer tool.

If that has it then vcds will too.

Can gateway basically tells the car what's installed and each major part will have a control module which the CAN gateway controls as a central hub.

Anyone done one of these before and know how much of a pain it is? Im reasonable with a set of tools but equally can be a bit heavy handed and dont really fancy breaking a new car...

I have not done one but the AMI on my car was retrofitted using the Kufatec kit and I watched the guy do it on my drive. The dismantling of the dash (which from the instructions is the bit that would scare me) whilst involved seemed to be fairly straightforward providing you take your time. It also all went back together OK and no squeaks. One other thing you started this thread off talking about VCDS and coding. May not be the case for the camera kit but the Kufatec AMI kit came with a dongle that you plug into the VCDS socket in the drivers footwell and it changed the car settings to recognise AMI. I then have the dongle to use again should the car get reset at some point and it forgets it has AMI.

Oh, that's a good idea. Although i suspect that wont be the case with the camera kit as the advert explicitly states getting it recoded by the dealer. Out of interest, you say a guy did it on your drive. Is this someone you called out who you could pass the contact details for or was it a mate?
Would much rather that someone who knew what they were doing fitted it rather than me hacking about with it thinking that a hammer is the best tool...

It was someone who my dealer (Walton Audi) used as the car they found for me (they wanted a quick deal because of the discount I got) did not have AMI fitted. The guy they used was actually based in Swindon so fairly convenient for you. It would have done at the dealer before I got the car but the AMI kit didn't arrive in time. I don't have his details with me at the moment but will try and find them over the weekend and send them to you. Failing that I can put in touch with the person at the dealer who organised it all or it might be worth asking your dealer who they use for retrofit stuff as apparently retrofitting AMI is very common
