Thanks for the reply, I did not have a Torque Wrench and used a flexible screw driver to get to it and gave it about 3-4 turns so hopefully that is not too tight.

Since someone else resurrected an old thread....

Mine is also throwing a bit of gunk out, and is giving some fluctuation in revs when lifting off the throttle. Do you think its worth replacing the damper or just getting the additional clamp?

Thanks I'll save a few quid then. I will probably get the additional tie and a new seal just in case.

    Hi Gupsterg,

I tighten the 2 screws on the hose pipe last week but does not seem to have made any real difference and still seeing residue build up on the right of the pipe (same as your picture). I think I may be getting confused. Its the oil residue coming from the hose pipe or is it coming from the the black box I think called the Pulsation Damper?

    Pipe.jpg

My 2006 A6 has over 130k on the clock and I am not sure if it is worth fixing this? My main worry is if it is dangerous and what could happen if I don't fix it?

P.S I never noticed it before but yes my rev do fluctuate a little too but never noticed it until I read your thread.

    Thanks

    Hi
I am sorry to bring this thread from the dead. I have just bought an audi A5 3.0tdi with a similar issue. You solution sounds great and would like to replicate it on my car. I noticed that the photos don't show anymore. I have i have tried photo bucket but I could not find them. Any chance you still have them? Thank you in advance.

Since owning my car now from Aug 11 I've always noticed oil residue on the face of the turbo body air inlet side and on the output charge air pipe...

I had it wiped away when the engine was removed in July 12 ... but it returned ...

    Due to these 2 threads...

I thought I would too clean areas/inspect and replace the seal between the connecting piece ( Pulsation damper ) and turbo ...

Due to above linked threads my own investigations revealed that the facelift V6 (09-11) has a clamp on the pipe from the crankcase ventilation system ...

    So parts used:-

    4F0 129 193 Seal approx. £5 inc VAT

    N 911 061 01
Spring band clamp (30x12) approx. £4 inc VAT, alternative is N 910 543 01 Adjustable clamp 20-32x12x0.5 approx. £3 inc VAT (got from a A8 diagram)

    I brought 2x screws just in case I lost the other ones N 909 589 02 approx. 30p each.

The seal is also shown in these links:-

Removed hose from air mass meter to turbo, then the smaller hose off the connecting piece / pulsation damper ...

    Old seal...

Smears of oil but no more than a teaspoon or so of oil came out from connecting piece / pulsation damper , mine had a p/n of 059 129 955 A (latest is 059 129 955 C )... the mesh is made of plastic on part ...

IMO I don't think the seal was leaking as bad as I thought against the turbo body face ...

But I know the area on the charge air pipe had been cleaned in July 12 and in between then and now ... I'm hope the clamp will stop this residue trickle down to turbo air outlet and on base of pulsation damper ...

On removal of old seal some oil sat in between it and housing...

God knows what the pulsation damper dampens as the crankcase ventilation pipe connection is straight through...

Turbo face and charge air pipe cleaned with just a cloth...

New seal was simply pushed into housing... connecting piece / pulsation damper cleaned with cloth...

Clamp fitted on crankcase ventilation pipe to connecting piece / pulsation damper ...

Only issue I had with removal/refit was I dropped a torx bit into engine bay when doing lower bolt on damper ...

I jacked up car removed undertray, it was no where to be found ... from the noise I think it rolled down to bottom of car and into subframe luckily no rattle noises from it perhaps it will roll out of it's own accord...

Whilst tray was removed I inspected the flexible hose going to first intercooler from below and the backs of both intercoolers for any signs of splits/leaks...

    Thankfully all was well ...

To me all of above formation of oil residue looks normal due to how the air from crankcase ventilation system has
some oil vapour in it plus the oil residue on charge air pipe would be less IMO if a clamp was in place on pipe like the 09-11 V6 has...

If anyone can give any thoughts on all of above would be great ...
