Ive Had my Golf Gt for 3 years and i have to say i love the car, dont really feel the need to change.
Well where we live it gets cold at winter but we dont really get snow, just rain, but yesterday we had one hell of a snow storm and in a few hours about 4 inches fell which is a lot for us
as its B roads all the way, no gritters at work here, I had a drive home with zero problems, passing ditched cars, sliding cars , the Golf just kept going, have to say i was apprehensive as i had a focus once which used
to slide in the bad freeze....But no the Golf motored on..very very impressive for my first time driving in these Conditions

18s that's dreadful. I like to have rubber on my wheels! Helps to absorb shock from our now terrible road surfaces.

Yeh, they look nice and all that, but in rural lincolnshire, on our roads, they're hopeless. Show them a wet or icy and rutted road - hopeless.

Hardly typical of the majority of motorists, though, is it?

Sorry what's your point? It's a Golf and this is a thread about snow performance?

Sorry for being tetchy. I had assumed that an 'R' Golf might be four-wheel drive, in which case I wouldn't be surprised it performed better in the snow.

Mine has been over all our rural Suffolk roads without issues. I passed a Range Rover, Land Cruiser and some funny 4x4 merc thing. It is light and agile so just hops across everything - please as punch with it. (That is coming from a Land Rover owner also).
