Hi all,New member, first post, so please be gentle!! My A4 cab (2007 2.0 TDI) roof has just started to not work properly. I can open it up on the switch in the centre console, but it will not close. I think this is because it is not finishing it's cycle. By that, I mean that the windows will not close back up when the roof compartment locks back down. I can open it back up manually, and move the roof up, lock the cover back down (with the tool), and then the roof will finish closing with the switch pressed. I can open it up 3/4 of the way, and then close it, and it all works fine, just when you try and open it all the way, it will not close back up. I close the windows with the switch on the door, and the light on the dash is not showing, so it is not registering as a fault (I guess), until you try to close the roof, of course! Anyone any ideas please!!! Many thanks in advance.

I would be reading it for faults anyway, could be a switch etc.

If you lock it all down manually and close the windows then try and open everything just from the switch, does the header rail just pop up and go no further? If so, this is classic pump motor failure.

Thanks for the feedback. After locking it all down manually, everything works as it should from the switch. It will open all as it should by switch, apart from the windows as I mentioned. It will take over electrically, after lifting the hood out from where it is stowed, and locking the cover back down with the tool. It will however, go 3/4 up, then back down, when you want it to operating the switch. If that makes sense!!!. Thanks.

I had one like this last year that had me foxed as the pump was working until the roof was at 11 o'clock pointing up and then dropped down like a, well, failed thingy, if you know what I mean. I was so busy that I could not spend any more time on it and I gave it to a friend of mine who is a direct competitor, but still a friend. He diagnosed it as a weak motor, fitted one and it cured it. I was surprised as it seemed to be working. The windows not dropping puzzles me, I think you should start with a fault code read. If you get no codes it would suggest the pump.
