I’ve just bought a 2010 Audi A6 which has a MMI system. The handbook indicates that a music player which has bluetooth can be linked to the car’s audio system. The car finds my Nexus phone, via Bluetooth, but won’t link to my Nexus 7 tablet. I can establish a partial link – inasmuch as the tablet will say it’s connected to the car, and the car will say that the tablet is one of the devices that can link to it – but the car says that the tablet isn’t there, when it is.

The handbook (and forums) seem to focus on ipods, and of course the Nexus wasn't available when the car was built (which makes me wonder if I need a software update).

    Advice appreciated,

    Peter

I suspect the car needs to "see" a phone via bluetooth. If it's also a media player then it will play the stored tunes. I'll have a mess with my tablet.

I'm also pretty sure that most MMI system can only do one bluetooth connection at a time.

The MMI system will probably need to support the A2DP bluetooth profile, not sure if it does. Or it will need to support the AVRCP profile.
Probably in a pit underneath a steam loco somewhere.
