Had the strangest thing happen yesterday. Weather was good so car needed a wash. Pressure washing the first layer off to start with, sat back in the car to put the wipers into service mode so I could lift them but before I could do that... I heard something almost like it had fallen from the tree above and dropped on the windscreen. But I'm almost 100% sure nothing at all fell...afterall, the trees are bare at the moment!

Next thing I know, I hear a crackling sound and sure enough, a 5" crack appears from the side of the drivers side windscreen straight across and bends in. Never seen or exp. anything like it!
Now I know I've been pelted with stones on the motorways recently especially with the atrocious patching up jobs the highways agencies and local councils are doing but they always seem to hit the screen around the middle...never on the drivers side area.

I'm with CK now who go via Highways/Victoria for this policy but just rang up Autoglass straight who deal with them direct so it was nice and easy. £75 all in excess, rest they pay. Just hope the premium doesn't go up next year!

Anyone had experience having their A6 screen changed by them? They say they use original screens to manufacturer specification with lifetime warranty on the work

Annoyingly, having to wait till next Wed despite the website stating there were appointments for Sunday

Mine had a crack after the front end was off to change one of the fanslast Oct, in my case passenger side by tax disc, there's nothing they did wrong as was with them the whole time. I decided to let the crack last out the winter carefully treating it in and out to some superglue (carefully applied using a cocktail stick)

I did at the time call out Autoglass because they were running one of their 'free bosche wiper' promotions, however they turned up with a first aid kit and (since I have 3 of em) I sent them away. Apparently they didn't offer the wipers for any Audi's

It's hit and miss as half the time I've ended up with water in the footwells of my jag due to them not sealing the screen properly...which meant them replacing at their cost.

I would go with an Indy if you know a good one and they are approved by your insurer.

Just had autoglass come down - nice guy but wasted trip as it was not an original Audi screen.
Initially I was ok with this but noticed there is no tint at the top at all which would mean the camera would show very clearly through the screen.

They're liasing with Chris Knott to see if they will authorise a genuine screen or not - hopefully it's a yes otherwise I may have to pay a bit on top (not too much apparently)
If they don't, I'll grab a refund of the excess and go via an indy if possible

I got no call yesterday from AG despite chasing them up

Finally got a call this morning from the Hendon branch to say it was authorised for a genuine one and they would transfer the call to the Camden branch as I wanted it fitted at work now.
Got a call from Camden to say it has not been authorised yet and someone would call after 11 to discuss timings and whether it has/has not been authorised.

Really shoddy service so far I have to say#

Oh and when I did chase it up yesterday, I was told there was a guide price of £424.18 for an original Audi glass

if thats the price (plus VAT) , then it's cheap. When I had mine changed, they said it was about £800 fitted if I had it done privately

The windscreen cover on your insurance will cover it and no increase to premium.

I had the screen on my Jag replaced under insurance and the front window trim alone (which needs to be replaced if the screen is) was £450 and screen £500

Yep as said in previous post the customer/fitment service with AG can be hit-and-miss

    Cheers Mark
What the initial chat was yesterday was that they would cover it but I MAY be liable to a further cost (but not too much - his words!)

This morning was a straight - yes it's authorised following another call saying it's still pending auth. Was also warned that just because I want original Audi doesn't automatically mean the tint strip will be present. Hopefully it will be as this is where the camera hides!

Akash I didn't know that speed camera detectors were illegal, I have a Bel 550e in the Jag and a Pogo Alert+ (with lazer detector) in the A6

    See this link

Or are you just trying to be 'discreet?

haha no! Sorry I should have said more in detail
I have a in-car camera both in the front and back of the car. It always records when I drive, and then goes onto parking mode (motion detect record) when it is parked up. Basically captures anyone who is going to try and do a hit/run, potholes, stupidity etc on camera in pure HD :- )
Saved me a few times in the past albeit threats rather than anything further. Minute you point that you have a camera and it was all caught - amazing how quickly they go silent.

If the cam was visible, it could attract someone to break in which is why it's well hidden and part of it is the tint that hides it, other half is more the headlining
