This is really annoying and has only started today but i am now at a loss.

"Check Engine Oil" light came on today as i was coming back up the motorway today as i was nearly home (15 miles ) i didn't stop ( i should add the front of the car was caked in ice and snow from coming up the motorway) . Got home checked dipstick and its on about the 2nd bar so i added some oil in bit by bit until i was near the top (just under a ltr) and thought nothing more of it. Came to drive the car later and the light was still on... checked it again and everything is the same plenty of oil drove the car for about 10 miles thinking due to the weather it just needed to circulate ect but its still on. Did a bit of research found it could be a faulty sensor (bonnet or oil level) cleaned out the bonnet catch but nothing, also disconnected the battery to see if it would reset it but it didn't.

Starting to worry slightly so hunted around for someone with VCDS and found someone local, did a scan and nothing has come back (well a door lock issue back in november but meh).

So now i am even more worried , Car starts/drives and sound perfect, it has the correct oil at the correct level on the dipstick but i still have the "Check Oil Level" light on my MFD.

    Car is a 2009 Passat

Can anyone help me at least sleep a little easier tonight ?

    Thanks in advance.....

If it's the oil level light it should be ok until you get it checked, oil pressure is more serious

Can you get someone to scan it with VCDS? It could be the level sensor, or bonnet switch. If it's oil pressure its a tow job

Had a scan last night and the only thing that popped up was a door lock back in December as intermittent. It's deffo not pressure just level.

Driving 15 miles with little or no oil pressure would've bought up at least an increase in engine temperature
The oil pressure sender, on a 2L tFSI, is on top of the oil filter (8) Worth checking your connection there is good and not iced up?
You don't say what engine you've got?
There's no check for oil pressure in VCDS as there's no sender on the engine

When you open the bonnet, does the warning illuminate on the cars MFD ?

I take it this is the amber check warnng light and not the flashing red light ?

Make sure you take the key out of ignition, open bonnet, close bonnet and recheck as the car will be looking for all of thses things in relation to switch conditions.

Hi i had same issue on my 2007 a4 2.0 170 bhp low oil light on (orange) oil was new and full ( MAKE SURE IT IS FULL) !!! easy order to fix
1: look at fuse 5 10amp make sure not blown( or goin bad / brown inside replace with good one)
2pen bonnet sray degreaser all around bonnet lach and use small swrewdriver and paper cloth clean ALL dirt an muck off even push lach into closed possion to get to other areas when fully cleaned spray with some sillicon lube or penatrating spray wd40 all latch( i came to the thought that maybe the latch contact links in with the sensors earth circuit ) there for dirt wont let it contact breakin the loop.
    If not cured it
3: dissconect batt poss and neg for 20 mins to force computer into reboot
4: take out oil level sensor clean with elec contact spray replace and make sure plug wire is free from dirt.
    5: STILL ON new sensor
6: make sure no fault codes on VAG-COM or AUDI £££$$$
