Sorry I didn't mean it's complicated to do. What I meant was the B6 abs modules are not coded to the car like other modules on the car so there are no precedures you can follow. Ross tech and others like me, collect codes to try for this exact sort of problem. If you post all the information about your abs unit it may be possible to find a matching coding. VW can do it easy because VW germany must have some reference data for original abs modules. That's why I said ask a dealer.

hi martin, what info would you need to find a matching code for my module - i found a log on the internet with the same part number and revision as mine, but would i need a security code to input the module code?
the lad that scanned my car charges £15 + £5 fuel each time he comes over so pretty soon it will work out cheaper to get my own. Also hes an 'enthusiatic diyer' so i dont ask him to change any settings just incase.

i know as much as him now but i am a software engineer and i have a more methodical approach to problem solving shall we say.

Looking at the other scan i found, the volltage is higher than my voltage as shown below, mine was created with ignition on but engine not running, does the low voltage point to a possible hardware fault?

i spoke to a local main dealer and they said that they could recode the abs and parking brake module but would do a scan first, and would charge £60 which seems fair. if it sorts the problem.

i will invest in a vag com kit later in the month when i get paid , i can see how much it will save me in the long run,

Try one of these 2 codings for the ABS Unit. 13596 or 13702. Going back a few years ago there was a service recall to replace convenience unit and steering column, doing this always knocked out the coding for the ABS. On the earlier Passats there seemed to be only 2 different codings. I did so bloody many of them those codings have stuck in my memory....If the coding is incorrect it wont accept it. Also if you havent got autohold you'll have to change the coding in the parking brake unit to 11 from 12.....HTH

Here are some of the possible codes I have; 13569,13602,13605,13626,13629,13698,13710,13755,13 767,15650,15653,26925,29986,29989,29998,30013,3009 4,30112,33269,33272,46535,46541.
These are just the 5 digit ones. There are others. You may need access codes. 40168 to access basic settings or 50403 to allow adapting. Make sure vcds used has a workshop code like 5311 not the default 0000. Now you can see why I said the dealer may be the best place for this. For the voltage thing, check your total scan. You should have a t15 and t50 figure figure for voltages. What do they say?

hi martin and all, thanks for your input, i found a few codes on a us forum that had been posted by one of the ross-tech guys,

we tried them on the abs module and one of them worked first time, doing this set the epb module code to 12, then all of the previously illuminated
    warning lights went off.

so now all of the lights work as they should, with no lights staying on when the engine is started. i can turn the esp on and off and the handbrake warning light works as it should.

so it looks like its sorted, i took it for a 15 mile test drive and ran the scan and it came back clear apart from the airbag fault.

i intend to disconnect the battery and see if the units keep the codes.

as i said i bought the car knowing it was a gamble and expected that it would need at least 2 new rear calipers and possibly a new epb module and in total its cost me

£60 in scans and £70 for a new battery.

i will definitely invest in a vag com kit and perhaps a set of highline 17 inch alloys, just need to get a towbar now
