ACT or eco?

Car is in 'normal' mode.

I am sure when I test drove a mk7 'ACT' appeared on the MFD when it was engaged, stopped for example.

I see 'eco' on the MFD when I throttle off and nothing when stopped.

Anyone help?

That's exactly what is shown in my MFD (colour). Although does it really matter whether it says ACT or ECO when the engine is running on two cylinders? As long as it says something because, just like the reviews, it is virtually impossible to tell otherwise.

ACT = active cylinder technology ie the engine running on two cylinders. This is only available on the 1.4 petrol GT.

Yes. However the mpg is definitely rising. First tank was about 30mpg, second was about 34mpg and this tank is currently sitting at 38.2mpg after 100 miles. Total mileage for the car is 580 miles. I'm mostly doing city driving (no motorways, but some country roads) plus I live in Sheffield which is almost entirely hills. By comparison my old Mini Cooper S averaged 32.6mpg over its life with the similar driving and was rated at 136gCO2/km.

Just to put a bit more perspective on the MPG of the 1.4TSi ACT DSG I have filled up yesterday and have averaged 43MPG whereas the computer stated 44.9MPG. This included both town and A road driving and a 200 mile motorway run down to Devon which was done in the early, cold morning, and with no attempt at ECO driving as the ACC was on for a lot of the time.

Actually fuel economy improves with the ACT using the ACC. It seems to stay in 2-cylinder model for a much larger proportion of the time.

This tank is now up to 38.9mpg with exclusively city driving. The problem with Sheffield is the multiple steep hills which cause a massive drop in fuel efficiency.

When you read VW's own stats as to how much more economical 2 cylinder mode is, reduces fuel consumption by up to 0.22MPG, then I would wager that using ACC would more than wipe that gain out. Whilst ACC is indeed excellent in use it does accelerate/brake harder than perhaps an ECO minded driver would.
