So, Having spent many hours chasing an airbag fault on one B5, my other B5 has decided to join in the airbag light saga Just to be a pain the LED powered airbag light on this car now refuses to illuminate at all. I've tried fitting a spare cluster from an identical car which is known to have had a fully functioning airbag system. No joy still no airbag warning light. VAG COM shows no faults. A local tame mechanic/sparky thinks the problem is a broken wire running from the airbag module to the cluster. He suggested running a wire from the aibag module to the cluster to see if that cures the poblem. Sadly he's buggered off on holiday for three weeks, and according to the paper VOSA have decided to include the airbag warning light in the MOT, which this car will need next week! I'm not having a good time with my pair of B5's at the moment.

Having stripped out the centre console I've now got to the airbag module, and it's loom, all I now need to do is locate the correct wire that powers the airbag LED and that's the point at which I have to scream for help, as I don't have a wiring diagram. Could anybody tell me which wire it is and the colour code for the little sod. as a test I will run a direct piggy back onto the offending wire, if that fixes the problem then I'll do some copper wire welding.

    The car is a 1998 A4 B5 manual 1.9 TDi (AFN) Avant.

Thanks for reading this, I look forward to your replies.

    Paul.

Just a late update. Prior to posting this plea for help, I fitted the cluster which had the non functioning airbag light to another A4 and surprise surprise on switching on the ignition, the airbag warning light sprang into life, and glowed away quite happily, bless it! So, we can safely say that the fault is not within the cluster or the LED

I don't know which wire but I think you can find it with a volt meter. When you switch the car on the wire for the light will have power for 3 or 4 seconds then the light will go out. You should be able to put a probe into each wire until you find the right one, long way I know but it should work.

Thanks for that suggestion. The only problem I can see is that the same is true for the ABS light, but at least I'll be able to narrow the field a little
