I found it a bit weird at first but all I do now is put it in gear and start pulling away and it releases automatically. My drive is on a slope but its the same on a flat surface. Now I am use to it I love it.

I disabled the seatbelt thing with VCDS as I got fed up everytime I had to move just a bit, keep putting my seatbelt on. It used to say press brake pedel then release handbrake on the display but I never got the hang of that, as after doing it, sometimes it did, othertimes it flashed the same message, so I turned it off!

I think we have found the answer.

I'm guilty of putting my seatbelt on as I drive out of the cul-de-sac.

I will have to change my habit now but that's not a bad thing as I'm already liking the e-handbrake function. That's defo what it is tho I don't have my belt on in the morning as I pull away.

Cheers guys been a great help.

    Lee.

Ok, I realise I'm going to sound like a right Wayne Slob, but the two times I've gone to drive away without releasing the epb (i.e. reached sufficient revs & clutch biting point) and my car has kind of lurched but not moved, because the epb is still on, has been at a McDonalds drive thru, which is very level ground. I've had my seatbelt on at the time btw. I've also checked on the first start of the day & it still releases automatically. Why occasionally, does it need a manual release, but other times, nearly always, it releases automatically!?

I don't understand what factor makes the car occasionally decide to require a manual release. It doesn't matter a great deal tbh as I am now in the habit of clicking the epb down while reaching clutch biting point simultaneously every time as a matter of course. It's just annoying that I can't see the pattern in why sometimes the epb doesn't automatically release for some reason and occasionally the auto wipers don't start at 5mph in the rain when other times they do. I just wish I knew the criteria.

Hey Brycie, what you driving through McDonalds for, you should walk from your house! (only kidding)

I too find I have issues with it releasing. I find it too slow sometimes, and find myself double-dipping the clutch to get it to release. I go to set off and it doesn't release, car lurches, I put the clutch back down and try again and off we go! I too have the same issue with the wipers!

Haha, I'm not a totally lazy slob mate, the only time I drive to McDonalds is when I've already knackered myself with the walk to the Chinese earlier in the day

I'll try the double clutch dip then, see if that works & at least it'll confirm that ours are working to the same criteria/requirements. Really, these things are run by computers & therefore must have consistent criteria, it's just annoying that I can't figure out what ths criteria is. Don't get me wrong, I aint losing sleep over it, lol, but it'd be nice to figure it out.

I tend to think sometimes I am a little quicker than the computer, if I take my time setting off it doesn't seem to have a issue releasing. Yet when I'm wanting to be quick away, say at the lights it won't release first time!

As you pointed out, it doesn't really bother me, I have just learned to live with it.

Never trust computers! Give me a manual handbrake anyday.

I too noticed driving manual cars with the EPB that it always doesn't disengage and always end up stalling then it works perfectly the next time. Very odd.

And as for the wipers, if you have them in automatic and you need them on at standstill, just move the sensitivity thing to the bottom and back up to the top and it will reset.

Once you get used to it you'll be fine. After reading the manual to understand the new handbrake I nearly choked on my cornflakes. When holding the switch up for a few seconds while driving, this will activate the motors and act as an emergency stop in case of brake failure.
