Can someone explain the Electronic Handbrake to me.

I haven't owned the car long enough or used it often enough to suss it out yet. I know how to work it but why does it sometimes release itself when pulling away in gear and other times it doesn't?

Like I said above I have not used the car enough yet to discover or work it out so I'm hoping someone on here can clear it up for me.

    Cheers,

    Lee.

I'm not 100% on this, but my observations lead me to belive that you don't need to release it manually if the car senses that you're on an incline, nonmatter how mild. On a dead flat piece of road is when I seem to need to release it manually. Don't take that as gospel though.

I'm sure if I read the manual, I'd be able to find out definitively though as per Esh's recommendation.

Yeah got a manual with the car but I haven't looked through it yet.

I know the answer is in there somewhere.

Perhaps is that what you would suggest I do? Read the manual.

    Cheers Brycie,

My driveway in on an incline and thats when it won't release automatically but also this is when the car first gets started after an overnight park. I'm wondering if it needs to be manually released upon start-up/first use and there after it can behave automatically.

Oh well, bang goes the theory as they say. Check your manual, but if no joy, I'll make note tomorrow morning as my drive's also on an incline.

I will refer to the manual tonight. Been meaning to browse through it the past couple of nights but I'm just loving the car so much the missus and I have just been going out for a drive at nights. (not in a boy racer way)

I too will report on any findings.

When driving away on a slope the braking force of the parking brake is only released when there is enough power at the wheels to make the vehicle move in the desired direction, which prevents the vehicle from rolling unintentionally.

For safety, the parking brake will not release automatically if the drivers seat belt is not engaged in the buckle.

Mine is parked on my drive which is inclined and comes off when biting point and revs sufficient, and also, when on level ground it does exactly the same.
As mentioned, this feature only works with seat belt fastened, otherwise its footbrake depressed then push down on switch to release handbrake.
