    The heater has packed up on my wifes passat its an S plate TDI (with the red I ) is that a b 5.5 ?

    It is the model with climate control

    I have been told the standard fan doesnt fit

    Does any one know the part number or any links on ebay where I can get the right fan ?

    Any help appreciated

    It's a B5 or 3B (B5.5 is the facelift model from 2000)

    Easiest method to get part numbers is to register (free) with vagcat.com

    Passat syncro/4Motion 1998

    Before ordering a new heater, it's well worth taking the old one out and inspecting the brushes (carbon blocks) as these being worn is the most likely problem.
    I turned mine round and put them back in, they lasted another good 10k before I then replaced them with some bought of eBay for £4/5.
    You can take the part number off the blower at the same time but I think you can see the part number just by removing the glovebox.
    When you take the blower out, it's tight but it will come out without removing the passenger airbag. Disconnect your battery first to be on the safe side though, and make sure you know your radio code.
    Seem to recall £60 odd for a pattern blower from eBay and more than £120 for genuine so replacing the brushes is a must cheaper option!
