What would you consider to be the finest things in life then?

Now that the warmer weather is just around the corner again, I'd say one of the best feelings known to man has to be on a hot summer's day, driving back home on Friday afternoon on free flowing roads in nice countryside with windows down, shades on, great tunes. And you know the garden awaits with a cold beer.

I think all the blokes on here know one obvious 'best thing in life' but if you want to include that, you'll need to ask the mods to move this to The Adult Banter section

Finest things for me include smell of a lawn mower with new oil after sitting all winter, Bisto, roast Sunday dinner, watching Mrs Odd walking ahead of me (blush), a car starting first turn after a head gasket, children laughing in the garden, old guys with mad eyes in the pub....Good music (for me it's the music and whiskey the Irish and Scots brought to Kentucky) bluegrass, and walking with Mrs Odd after church on Sundays, dammit I sound ordinary... drink, **** ****...,.

Only ever heard one example of bluegrass, that being Seasick Steve, but I thought he was pretty good.

When we used to live in old houses, sitting in front of an open fire with a good dvd on & a nice glass of red - that's hard to beat.

Watching an important England (or your own particular country) match in the pub with your mates and your team scores/wins - the comeradery with mates & strangers alike and the adrenalin rush is pretty amazing.

Bluegrass and finger picking was brought to America by Irish, Scots and Ulster/Scots along with Whiskey/Whisky. Funnily enough one thing the yanks do well is make booze, Makers Mark Bourbon Whisky is a small batch as good as any single malt Scotch tho not much of a peaty aroma, Woodford Reserve Bourbon Whiskey almost tastes like Bushmills only slightly stronger. I imagine I'm much older than you mate, I remember when the TV was turned on for the news and usually turned off again. People actually talked when I was young(er) and played records for entertainment. Mrs Odd hates alcohol, cars and hillbilly music, cest la vie

Not much of a whisky drinker myself, though I have tried Makers Mark. I get a bottle of JD once a year for a treat, I do like JD & Coke. I appreciate any guitar music when played well too. I'm 37, so I was brought up with the tv on pretty much all day, but I've always appreciated good (guitar based) music. My horizons are much broader now, but I was very into my rock music when younger. Always have liked anything from Elvis, The Eagles, The doors etc to more modern stuff.

Ahhh.....alcohol! That's a big part of my job.....but for me a good aged rum is the best.....something like El Dorado 15 yo. Goes very nicely with another of my passions...Cuban Cigars....my job title is actually 'cigar sommelier' .....I sell high end cigars in the Lanesborough Hotel in London. Nothing as good as a warm evening outside with a great cigar and a good rum!

Good tune. Though the more it went on, the more it reminded me of the Rab C Nesbitt theme. I guess because of it's Scottish origins & possibly the fender.

Cigars are one of those things I feel I've missed out on Neil. Never really known how to smoke them properly. Kudos for turning one of your passions into a career.
