    If memory serves the ecu on those is under the carpet on the front passenger side.....

    I have searched the whole car and there is no sign
    of the ecu... The engine wiring loom passes through the
    fire wall on the drivers side and goes to a series of relays and
    fuses but no sign of an ecu.

    You don't have a TDi, you don't have an ECU. Check the fuel cut off solenoid on the pump, just crack a pipe on an injector and turn it over

    That makes sense

    I cracked one of the lines but there is no fuel coming through

    I checked the 2 wires going onto the solenoid and both wires have 12 volts going through them

    Are both supposed to have power?

    change it, if you have a good clutch take the plunger out see if it starts, you'll have to stall it in gear to stop the engine

    i dont understand how there could be a problem with the solenoid as the car was starting and driving before i changed the ignition and transponder

    I don't understand loads of things however I know these engines quite well, no electronics, nothing to prevent it from starting except broken timing belt or duff solenoid. What age is the car?
