    Hi,
I just wanted to know any of you guys had experienced this.
My passat's chrome frames are not as "shiney" as they should be, is there anything I can do about this?
Thanks for your help in advance.

Mine does not even have them. I would not mind adding them in the future if possible. Confused as to why some do and some don't. Mine is a 2003 2.0, described by the dealer I bought it from as an S, though nowhere does it say it is.
    One German, Two Italian.
    It's a Mercedes Benzzzz though

When you say they are not shiny, is it that they are starting to go milky from water ingress?

    Hi Baron,
yes that's what I mean. They are going "milky" now. Is there a cure for this?

I've just done the chrome surrounds on my Passat with Hotspot - Multi Use Metal Polish. This is stuff we have in the house to clean the fire brasses and the coal bucket but it worked a treat on the car chrome. It's non abrasive and works to disolve any oxide on copper, brass, nickel, pewter, chromium, steel, silver or gold.

It's certainly cleared all the "milky" colour off the chrome but there is a bit of pitting left in the surface but I think that's going to be permanent damage due to the water ingress. Even my wife noticed and she's no where near as fussy about these things as me. You should be able to get this stuff in any ironmongers shop but one thought, I'd use sparingly as I have no idea it's effect may be on the window rubbers. Off to give the car a good wash to remove any residue of the Hotspot just in case.

When I got my Passat I bought mine up to scratch with some G6 rubbing compound and plenty of elbow grease... and I mean plenty.

Once done though as long as you keep them waxed all will be well.
