    Hi

I am going to be retrofitting footwell lights in my B6 after I had them enabled in VCDS. I've nearly sourced all the parts (pretty much all off ebay).

I've read up how to install them which seems pretty straightforward, and I hope that the CECM is situated above the brake pedal? That's where I think it is.

I'd just like to know how best to thread the wire through the back of the dash for the passenger footwell light. Is there a route through behind the dash without taking too much trim off? Hoping that I can prod a wire through with a coathanger or something similar?

Other than that the installation is pretty straight forward - VW repair wire into the CECM, link both lights with a wire for power, then ground both lights to the chassis.

Finally, does anyone know whether one VW repair wire is different to another? I need repair wire 000 979 150 but there is a very similar but slightly different part number on ebay for less than dealer price.

    Thanks!

Will show pictures of installation when done!

When I retrofitted footwell lights to my A3 the CCM was under the panel surrounding the steering wheel. See below.

To route the wire to the passenger side, there is a space in the A3 behind the radio then I removed the glovebox and brought it through that way.

You can run it in behind the dash, the guy who done the A3 guide used a long metal coat hanger with the wire attached and poked it through behind the dash. This is just above the dead pedal in my image.

Repair wires are only £1-ish from VAG so go genuine for peace of mind - infact I may have a short one you can have for nowt which I dont need. I will check this though.

    Edit - P/N 000 979 009 E, 60cm. Yellow.

Thanks to A6 Chris and some googled material, I nearly have all the bits I need to complete the installation of the footwell lights.

On another retrofitting subject I have been glancing at the fog lights on eBay too. I don't particularly want the hassle of having yet more coding and fiddling with the cecm - can these be installed and wired directly to the (new) switch via inline fuses and bypass the cecm? Personally I can't see why not, but these modern cars may have other ideas!!!

    Thanks.

You may aswell just plug it into the CCM as you'll have to route wire(s) through into the cabin anyway plus onc you do your footwell lights you'll at least know where everything is.

Hi, thanks for asking, all fitted this morning in freezing weather!

Not all according to plan though. Firstly the repair wire was wrong for the cecm connection which had wider pins, and secondly it was more difficult threading the wires through the car than I thought.

Getting the cecm plug out was easier than I thought, but being impatient I managed to push my own wire all the way through pin 7 so a contact is made.

Short story is that yes, all installed, functional and look very tidy, but I know I need the proper repair wire as this one may work itself loose.

I can return your wire, If you want but it would fit a planned fog light retro fit later in the year!

    Photos to come tomorrow.

Got my footwell lights OEM fitted from factory. But I'd like to be able to switch them on/off when on the move with a switch for passanger front. Rather than have them just dim out when shutting door. Is there a method to do this with the OEM wiring?
Am also planning rear footwell lights. But guess this would have to be a seperate circuit. Not doing LEDs for either.
    Cheers for any insights

Good news, least you're getting there.

Feel free to keep the wire, I won't need it anyway.

    Looking forward to the pics.

I know on the A3 I can turn them off altogether via the DIS and dim them.

They dont stay on while driving, but the ones in my A6 do.

If you pop the cover off one of the lights and the connector looks like this (see below) I can put you in contact with someone who could make a rear loom.

Not my pic but the fella who makes the looms.
