    Hi All,

I'm trying to find out where the air-con pressure sensor is located, been looking all over the net and can't find anything for the D3 A8. Ran a VCDS diagnostic last night after noticing the car misting up and got this so I assume the sensor needs replacing or if I’m lucky there's a loose connection!

    Any tips or pics appreciated!

Well....I sussed it in the end!

Peterborough Audi were very helpful in sourcing the part (around £50) and confirming location of the sensor on their schematic system. Getting to the sensor is another issue, and I guess not many have had to do this yet on the D3. I found a very helpful post on removing the bumper, just google "D3 DIY : Front bumper and grill removal". Take care when popping out the sides though as the plastic brackets could be snapped easily,..... although if they do it's not a disaster.

The bumper does have to be pulled forward, but it doesn't have to be removed, just make sure you support it when you pull it forward. An old internal door on top of the two front wheels I had removed earlier was just the right height.

    Anyway, photos attached!

Hi, quick few question, was there a rubber o ring when you took the sensor off?How much gas escaped? and was the sensor tight all the way off?

I've just done my golf's g65 which was a PITA. the thread was stripped, no rubber seals, gas all escaped... I hope i dont have to do the a8, Ac works fine, but it does look a lot more accessible.

    Hi,

There is a rubber o ring that comes with the replacement sensor. It's easy to remove after about one full turn...the biggest job is getting to the sensor in the first place. Hardly and gas escapes, the system is designed so that the sensor can be removed without loosing the gas. I'm sure the golf should be similar so there must have been a problem with the valve as well as the sensor on yours.

My part from audi didnt come with an o ring, I had to buy one from halfords.

The old sensor was a little corroded, and the o ring had perished. It was stiff to turn, all the way out, and while I was turning, I was getting a hand full of gas. Was not good. Got the thing off to find that the thread on the valve was a gonner, well most of it anyway.

Cut a long story short, I put two o rings onto the valve where the groove is, one just under the thread to seal it properly, so there are two seals now. got the new sensor on, its made of alu now, so it was cutting its own thread, tightened it, and no leaks. Got it charged, and all seems well, finally have AC again!
