Anyone out there know what the bolts that hold the sump guard are? part no or even size / type?

I wanted to change my oil, bought the oil, bought the filter, jacked up the car put it on the axle stands went underneath and discovered that:

    1. My "hex" type screw driver doesn't fit the bolts so I couldn't get the guard off, although I know I did it before.
    2. Several appear to have gone AWOL and i'd like to get replacements..

Most VAG engine under trays have Torx screws to hold the "belly pan" on. Most Golfs I've had, had T25 torx crew heads .Your dealer will have them - not expensive. Check all the clips are present and apply Waxoyl to both the clips and screws to stop them rusting & breaking.
