Promising news! He said he got the battery charged up & was able to start it. So he thinks it ran dry & possibly with that valve leaking fuel, it sent 'it' (not sure if he meant an air lock or some fuel) back down the system towards the tank & made it refuse to start as it was having trouble getting fuel back through the system again. He suggested the fuel guage is incorrect & advised keeping it at least quarter full in future. He's going to keep it running for 45 minutes to make sure it keeps going ok, so fingers crossed.

I'm chuffed it's running again, but I can't help this nagging feeling that the fuel guage isn't incorrect & I've not really got to the root cause of the oroblem. He's the expert though, so hopefully he's right.

Cheers for that. It's back on the drive I'm pleased to say & running really well. New fuel filter £28, new fuel valve £24, labour £80 & £20 worth of diesel he put in. £150 not bad imo.

Thanks to all for the help & messages of support
