Hi all. The day I've been dreading has arrived. The oil pressure warning light came on the DIS just now as the car cut out. At first, I thought it had just stalled, but when I tried to restart, it just kept turning over without firing up.

So what do I do? The car's parked in an awkward position, so I think I need to try to restart it to get it back on the driveway unfortunately.

Don't restart mate... I'd really think about getting a neighbour/friend or breakdown to help you out moving car...

As you are already aware if it is the oil pump drive then you really don't wanna be starting her up...

Sorry to hear of this Brycie... lets hope it is something not major more like a fuelling issue or something...

There has been some white smoke on startup the last few months, wpuld that indicate injectors rather than oil pump?

White smoke can just be condensation on a cold start. Can you get her towed/pushed back on to the drive? Don't turn it over until you check it out mate

When I changed my injectors and fuel rail was low on fuel,etc... I got the low oil pressure warning on DIS... as car turned over to build up pressure, etc but failed on first cranking...

Really can't say much from info you have currently besides I only have experience of the engine in my car...

But will root around for data... have you scanned with your VCDS?

Too much of a coincidence it cutting out the oil light coming on. You may have had a cam belt failure. Do not try and start the car. Regards Peter

Thanks fellas. I've just left her in the road (we're second from end in a cul de sac anyway). Green Flag are on their way. I was going to check the white smoke out when weather was warmer, as like you say Doc, condensation can look like white smoke. Guess I ran out of waiting time. I'm fairly sure it is smoke though, not heavy, just a few whisps really.

One weird thing, when it cut out & I instinctively tried restarting, the key stuck in the crank position & it kept turning over without me touching the key. Then I saw the oil pressure sign & removed the key & coasted back down the hill to our house.

I'd need to reinstall vcds Gup, as I had it installed on my old laptop which I gave back to work. Didn't have time to load it onto our laptop this morning unfortunately.

Cambelt was changed 40, 000 miles ago, so I'd hope it isn't that.

Andrew, Mine's September 06 build, so is on the cusp of when they fixed the oil pump issue, so yours being 57 plate, you should be ok I'd have thought.

Car's gone to the garage now, so I just have to wait for news. Will keep you all posted.
