    Hi,

I am soon to purchase my first Audi. I have already decided on the s line estate, however I am very interested in the 136e bhp engine as for me, efficiency outways performance. I also tow a caravan, and my passat 130 bhp estate has done so very well for the last 10 years.

Does anyone have experience of this engine, particularly towing, is the predicted mpg of 60+ achievable when solo? a
Any response would be really appreciated.

    The Ox

I think you may be looking at a C6 A6 if you're referring to a TDIe?

I briefly had the 136bhp TDI in an A4 company car last year. It felt quite nimble in town driving after running a 3.0 TDI Allroad before, however on the motorway it felt very underpowered. Taking into consideration the A6 is bigger and you'll be towing I'd definitely go for the bigger engine.

Thank you Eddo, I think the only way around it is to test drive both engines, I would love the 3.0 TDI, but I couldn't justify the lower mpg.

Don't say that Ox, you'll get a million replies that the 3.0 actually delivers real world mpg better than the 2.0!

Is that true? Awesome news as I just ordered a new 3.0 TDI Quattro and trading in my 2011 2.0 TDI A4 !!

    Damnit.

Oh well it did sound a bit unlikely.

And now I'm no longer a one post wonder!

Performance wise I think you'll find that your old 130 pd passat performs better than the 136 A6 ever will....... the characteristics of the different engines, PD vs CR coupled with the additional weight of the A6 makes the latter feel slow. I would consider the 170ps/350nm 2.0ltr in the A6 the absolute minimum for towing unless your c'van is very light.
