I want to enable my fog lights as DRL's via VCDS and replace them with some 4 led units I've seen on eBay. With the fogs as DRL's, if I keep the lights on auto, would they go out when the side lights come on, or just the dipped beam, and would they still function as fog lights too?
Also is it possible to enable battery and oil level meters in MMI Basic +? Anyone with VCDS neer ish to Whitstable with VCDS that could do it for me in exchange for some beer tokens?

If you have halogen headlights just make edits via VCDS to module 09... as done and tested by JoshA6 here Link:- DRL Wiring help needed - Page 4

Also ref the VCDS wiki link in this post which JoshA6 used Link:- DRL Wiring help needed - Page 4

Thanks Gup, couldn't remember who it was who had done that. I want to do it either way, it's just the lazy person in me that want's everything on auto lol. Is it difficault to do if you haven't done it before? I asked in this thread because i don't want to be in a situation where we meet up and can't figure it out. Will have a look at the VCDS link.

The technical side I cannot help with although LED in the fog light will not push out much/any light onto the road and will no longer be effective as foglights. They will be fine as DRL although I cannot personally recommend ebay without any warranty or quality but that is up to you get some pictures up once its done would love to see!

This is one of the reasons I wouldn't do the above mod... instead would like them to work off the DRL wiring in my Xenon headlights...

I'm not proposing just putting some LED's in the existing fogs, i found some complete new units that replace the standard fogs altogether, I'll find it again when I get home later. They look similar to the round DRL's fitted to some Merc's and Volvo's. If they turn out to be crap then I'll just get some brighter halogen bulbs. I've only got halogen headlights so don't have that option Gup. Think I'd rather go the fog light route as I'm not that keen on the aftermarket route as i haven't seen any that could pass as standard fitment yet, they mostly look pretty tacky.

Bah, just looked again and they are universal, i thought it said A6 specific in the add when i skimmed over it last night. I will just get some 80 or 100w H7's.

    I agree...

Only an idea... so lets say you wish to keep standard fogs but have LED DRL's you could do the coding for DRL's as fogs wire the LED DRL's to fog lights then have perhaps a switch to toggle the standard foglight bulbs off...

This would give you auto LED DRL's as the VCDS fog DRL conversion is coded in and will function like factory fit situation...

ie as DRL when light switch set as "Auto" to work with the light sensor and/or DRL in MMI menu set as on...

When you require fog lights you turn light switch to fog setting with the additional switch to make the standard fogs come on...

I know you will end up with that extra switch but you will still have LED DRL's which functions like auto/factory situation without heavy wiring mods plus the inconvenience of enabling fogs via the extra switch is gonna be low as how often do we get fog/drive in it? and you will still have standard fogs for foggy situations...

There maybe a better way but this seemed a good idea to me to share...

That's if the fogs don't still function as fogs when enabled as DRL's? If this is how they are configured in the US and parts of Europe.....they get fog too. If it does work like that then I would prefer to get some extra white halogens/replace fogs with LED's if there are any bright enough that fit where current fogs are and look factory, instead of tacky looking DRL's bodged into the grills. I don't want to add anything that doesn't look like it came out of the factory like it, and i haven't seen any that fit the bill yet. Yes I know, I'm very fussy!

They run as DRL but when dipped beam is on then they are off.

They can also be used as normal fogs if the light switch is moved past Auto.
