If you know your engine code, and the engine code of the pre-2002 car you're thinking of taking the arms from, then you can have a look at vagcat to tell if the part numbers are the same.

Thanks mate, but I'm looking at new set. Had a quote from Audi something like £700, but seen on auction site for £100. Did any one try cheap option. It's look like a lots been sold. Any feedbacks please. I read one post on american site and one guy fit expensive on his Audi and a cheap one on his son's car and cheap one last longer. But it was different road conditions. So will this set
AUDI A4 A6 VW PASSAT COMPLETE FRONT SUSPENSION TRACK CONTROL ARM KIT | eBay

Please really need your help and can't afford dealler price.

I think the difference is the anti roll bar bar 'C' links. Newer ones have rubber bushes, older not.

I've recently fitted a Febi Bilstein set to my Passat which in my opinion was the best price / quality compromise.

If you are fitting them yourself, then take the risk on the cheapies, if you are paying someone to fit them them get better quality.

As for fitment, they are all the same as far as I'm aware except for balljoint sizes. Whoever you buy them from, once you give them your reg they'll tell you what kit you need.

BigCol thank you. The only issue with fitting is that pinch bolt, which i done just to try how it's goes. And it was fine. But that was only near side. Don't know about offside hope it's the same easy job.

I had no bother at all with the pinch bolts.

I did have a nightmare splitting the lower arm balljoints though.

How did you split them? I tried the split upper arm, but no luck. I didn't force it, just to try to see how it's go. Did you use any special tools? Ta.

For the uppers, once the pinch bolt is out, a small drift from below and some gentle tapping had them out with ease.

On the lowers the taper insert got stuck to the spiggot and came out with it.

Taper spiggot stuck to lower arm tapered balljoint

    Where the taper should remain

    Taper where it should be

Removing taper from spiggot, MAP gas blowtorch and the ball joint splitter (taper end cut down so splitter would fit)

    Taper

    Done (ish)

My advice is, look at my balljoint splitter, likely that you have the same. IT DOES NOT FIT. Get one that does and trial it on the lower joints before you are in a place where you are comitted. All the problems I had were due to the splitter not opening wide enough to fit over the lower balljoints.

WOW what a great reply.Thank you very much. I just remember when I done my offside outer CV joint I had no problem in splitting joints so fingers cross this time shouldn't be to bad. I like your garage pit, very handy. But for me this time I'll be on my drive way

Before you order, you need to check the number on the lower front arm. There are two different types ( I believe changed in 2002) Also if you have sport suspention ( 1BE) the two small upper differ.
I tried one of theese ebay kits some years ago, after a year or so there was nothing left of it! But ofcourse, they can be better now.
Lemforder is oem, and regardless what people write, in my book they are far better than anything else. ( You can buy theese with the VW/ Audi logo grinded off, to a much better price than from the Audi dealer)
