Hi there I have just bought a Mk6 VW Golf 1.6tdi bluemotion. I have just checked to see that there is a glue tyre repair kit in the boot instead of a tyre. I have measured the space in the boot which should fit a space saver wheel ok but not a full size wheel and tyre. I dont want to rely on the glue kit to get me going and would only be using a spacesaver to get me to the next garage to repair any puncture. Or if the damage is more serious I am stuck awaiting a recovery vehicle. Obviously the glue negates any repair which would then need a new tyre and a replacement glue cannister at £35 . <My tysre size is 196x65r15

I have contacted my local VW dealer/ parts centre who say that there is no such a thing as a 15 inch spacesaver with suitable clearence. Is there anyone else on the forum who has run into this problem and did they manage to find or use a spacesaver from another vehicle.

    Cheers

The above spacesaver/tyre combo is the same overall size as your current wheel/tyre combo.

The standard space saver for the MK.6 is a 16" wheel (T125/70 R16) so that would be the wrong rolling circumference for your Blue Motion Golf. However, standard Mk.5 Golf's had 15" wheels and space savers so a space saver from a Mk.5 Golf should be OK. I don't think you would have much bother finding one in a scrapyard but be careful as some people leave space savers on the 'punctured' wheel for far too long so that there's virtually no tread left. I would be very wary of buying a used space saver. Also, early Golfs had different stud configurations to more recent ones; IIRC the pcd on old ones was 100 compared to 110 on newer ones.
Another point to bear in mind - does your Blue Motion have a wheel brace and jack?

Nothing new here; many VW parts don't even like selling bits to 'non experts' (i.e., you and me!). They usually go on about 'the warranty could be affected' or 'only skilled VW mechanics should fit these parts'. BTW the pcd for Mk.5's and Mk.6's is 112, not 110, as I said. Have a look at VW Volkswagen guide for correct wheel fitment, PCD, and offset of your car | Alloy Wheel Fitment
