    Hello Everyone.

I have had this fault appear a handful time over the year, however now it is becoming more frequent, I have noticed (i think) that it seems worse if I park up with out the wheels being perfectly straight.

I have taken to my local VW Tech who said that it had a few error codes all relating to the steering column although not pin pointing a specific area

He said to replace the full column Im looking at £700 + fitting?!?!?!?

This seems to be common when I google this fault, I also read that VW releaseda much cheaper part that would fix this problem for less than £100... is this true?

I've just spent £800 on some wear and tare issues brakes, bushes, suspension and cant afford this too (plus it needs taxing this month)

I would really appreciate any help...

    2006 (55 plate) passat 2.0TDI - 150,000 miles

    Thanks a lot in advance
    Scott

Detailed explanation is here: B6 STEERING FAULT - PASSAT

Fix from VW is about £350. The part costs £75 and you can fit diy but you can't code it so the car won't start. Only VW can code the new lock.

Thanks a lot for your help Martin!!!

Can you give me any information on the fault itself, I don’t want to be sold something I don’t need replacing and at the minute I’m not sure exactly what the cause is?

There's a pretty comprehensive description on Martin's site - did you scroll down and read the whole thing?

Hi not had it done yet, VW say around £350 all in - they said they can now fix the issue rather than replacing the full column
