    Hi all,

My 07 Touran has recently developed the ESP fault where the warning light displays.

I contacted VW customer services who advised me that it is a known fault and to take it to a VW garage for diagnostics. They also advised that it is safe to drove as not all cars have ESP or ABS and VOSA don't consider it a safety issue hence no recall.

As I was coming off the M5 at J25 on Saturday my Touran cut out. When I switched the ignition back on and drove on I realised the brake pedal was non responsive/rock solid as if the ignition was off.

I slowly limped to Taunton VW who are going to look at it on Tues or Weds.

Is this the G201 sensor? Ignition problem maybe? They said they have never known the brakes to completely fail. Now they have! Would seem a safety issue to me!

Unfortunately the link between the ESP and ABS being the same pump means they can both fail together. My issue is with them saying some cars don't have either but in that respect MOT would be wrong as that designates a car as road legal and any warning lights are a Fail. Also ABS must work if the car is fitted with it at factory.. so it is definitely a safety issue in my eyes as the car was designed with it it will not work in the same way without it as it will rely on the systems more than a car designed without them (TVR etc)

Glad you are safe and posting though! Let us know the outcome.

Thanks for the responses, just realised I spelt brake wrong in the title. I will blame my mobile phone.

    Heard back from Taunton VW.

It does have the G201 sensor fault, which VW have agreed to repair 100%.

It does also have perished servo hose pipes which is the reason the brake pedal has locked on.

This apparently is not linked to the other ESP/brake problem, seems a coincidence to me! They are quoting me about £3 each hope and around 3/4hr labour which is around £75 in total.

I have asked whether there could be any good will on this fault too due to it perhaps being linked? I don't think this is unreasonable?

I am wondering if the hoses have perished due to more pressure coming through the system to equate for the loss of ABS?

Tbh mate it is an 07 car I would argue it is a large safety issue as they should do this free of charge and its is obscene that they are expecting you to pay when it is something that should last the lifetime of the car.

Good luck let us know how it goes.
