By all means make a reasoned decision - but if you made all your decisions based on the bad experiences of forum members, you'd never buy any car. By their very nature, fora are places people come / post when they have problems they want solved. I for one have never posted "hi guys, had absolutely no problems with my car" on any forum. If that the case, of course, I don't post.
The A6 is a complex expensive to fix car. So is a BMW 5 series. Buy as good an example as you can get, and keep your fingers crossed! But if you can't afford £2-3k a year in normal running costs (road tax, insurance, servicing, tyres etc. but not including fuel), plus thge occasional repair, then walk away now.
