My black Avant has developed a rapidly worsening problem with the finish on the bonnet and front panel. The paint is fine but the lacquer is bubbling and then peeling-off. It has become far worse since the temperatures dropped and I see no way of stopping it, short of using touch-up lacquer around the edges but that will look horrible.

Any ideas as to the cause (paint is original I think) and how I might halt the progress? Will it need a re-spray to the offending panels or can they just do the lacquer?

    Much appreciate any advice.

I have a similar but not as bad sounding problem.
My lacquer has peeled in a couple of spots on the front panel beside the front grille (passenger side). I think mine has been started/caused by stone chips. I could also be doing with a repair but I'll probably tackle it myself.

I'm maybe a bit more relaxed than some about my car and stone chips because it's almost 7 years old and approaching 60k miles.....when I have a newer car I'm more concerned about such issues.

    Hi there.
Mine is the same around the front bumper area and one of the wheel arches. As suggested i think it is caused by stone chips then water getting behind laquer. Be careful if you use a jetwash as this will fetch off loose laquer if you get too close.

You cant touch up laquer and will have to have that area resprayed IMO.
