    Has anyone done it?

    Toying with the idea of buying something stupid, majorly impractical and cheap, to run about in during the summer months.

    I can get a limited mileage insurance policy and my budget would be £2500-3000 and I will be (trying) to sell it later in the year.

    Needs an idle control valve but has full history - http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item...obalID=EBAY-GB

    Any suggestions?

    I like the look of that S2000 - and I'd like to bet that a decent indy could replace that idle control valve for less than £500.

    I've never done it, but I have always had a hankering for a summer car to hoon around in.

    Looks like a lot of car mate I'd imagine the final price will be a lot higher than today's.

    I know it won't make that price but its something like that I after. Just something stupid and something out of the ordinary.

    Haven't considered a MX5 but a rev limiter of 9000rpm and hearing VTEC kick in at a recent rolling road day would be hard to beat.

    Nothing set in stone but will probably get something to wreck about in

    My cousin bought an MX5 as a summer car (Renault Clio was her everyday car), and ended up using the Mazda more than the Renault. She has allowed me to have a play on occasion, and I must admit that much as I adore my A4 for creature comfort, there is something really fun about the MX5 (dead easy to get the reat end out on a roundabout or bend for a start); I couldn't put up with the suspension for more than a couple of hours at a time, but she has literally been the length and breadth of the country in hers (in fact, I had to travel best part of 200 miles round trip in the snow almost exactly a year ago to the day to get her the last leg of a journey to a family funeral after she had driven from the south coast to southern Scotland in the MX5);

    Got to admit, if I was to do it, there would only really be five cars on the shortlist - Mazda MX5, Honda S2000, Mazda RX-8, Jaguar XK-R, and MGB GT (or maybe a Triumph GT6 MK2)

    then try an rx8. nothing quite as revy as a wankel engine. they are so cheap as well. ok, they are a liability if they go bang, but are a proper sports car.

    Zol I need to have something I can sell! And don't want to be filling it with oil every 2 days either lol

    I might consider the MX5 as there are more out there within the money I'm looking to spend compared to S2000's but you never know what could happen.

    That s2000 is now sold outside ebay, would be interesting to know what it went for.

    There's a stolen recovered listed too for slightly over £2k I think.

    Need to ask the boss first though but she's away for a week in May so she may have a shock when she returns lol

    S2000 and Toyota MR2 are the only roadsters I'd consider. MX5 & all the others are just too girly, unless you go for the higher priced ones like Merc & Jag.
