My Golf has been in for its second MOT (and passed) and that's made me smile happily - however, I've been informed that the lease company have authorised the Cambelt replacement which surprised me really. I questioned the dealer as to the interval and, apparently, it's 120k or 4 years whichever is sooner.

So, more time at the dealership for my Golf and more money to be spent - Someone, when this goes back, will get a fully fettled car: New clutch (etc), gearbox and cambelt all done - If it didn't have 18s, I'd consider buying it from the lease company myself...

Heh heh, tempting, but I do 25k PA, a private car doesn't add up financially - This golf has had 7 services, 12 (I think) tyres, a gearbox, clutch and other bits and pieces - which have all been covered by the lease company.

Yeah its kinda weird as its 105,000 km (about 60,000 miles) or 7 years here in OZ as its classed as hot climate.

If you were in an Audi with the same engine it would be 5 years.
Had MKV GTI, Now Ford Falcon

I do 30k per year and will be keeping my A3 until it packs in, hoping at least 200k but I know it will need a flywheel/clutch at some point.

A gearbox, why may I ask?

The interval is 48 months or 180K km and even though that's less than 120k miles IMO that's way too long for a rubber belt.

I was told by my VW dealer in December that the 48 months element has been dropped by VW and it's now on mileage only
academic for me now that I've switched to a petrol, but they were adamant that an official communication was issued announcing the change

I do wonder if it would be easier for manufacturers to use chains instead of rubber belts... It can't, surely, be just to keep dealers in business?
