S6 dashboard removal + fuel additives

Hi all, newbie S6 owner here... 2001 model and loving it big time!

1st problem already though - the LCD display on the dashboard has started to pixelate but I have found companies that can repair them. Audi want £650 to fix it as they say they can only replace the whole dashboard!!

My problem is that I need to remove the dashboard to get to it and wondered if anybody has any idea how to go about it?

Also can anyone see any reason why a fuel system cleaning liquid should not be used on my car? Something like the STP Complete Fuel System Cleaner.

I don't suppose it was a black (or dark blue) S6 on AutoTrader with 59,000 miles was it?

I can only speak of my experience with Mk4 Golfs - but it seems insane that the whole dash must come out to remove the instrument cluster.

Usually the upper part of the steering column cover is removed, giving you access to two screws which hold in the instrument cluster.

Who is the company who claim they can repair the FIS please? I am starting to see signs of pixelation and would like to know who to call if it gets worse!

I have been using Reddex injector cleaner recently with no problems. I guess over time, there is a chance it could start to eat away at the piston rings (?) if you use some every time you re-fuel, but I don't imagine there's any danger in running one or two tanks of Reddex-mixed fuel through.

I guess it goes without saying, but always always use 97 Octane (or Optimax) for best results and always put the Reddex in before the petrol so it gets a good mix!

Hi guys, thanks for the replies.

Funnily enough yes... it was the one on autotrader! Got a great deal in the end as the seller agreed to knock off the cost of having the cam belt replaced. Paid £10,200 total, not bad I reckon? The main bonus is that I've been looking for a while and they were always miles away and this guy lived 5 miles away from me!

I actually spoke to the guy from the second site and he quoted me £150 if I send him the unit. Not cheap for something that seems simple to repair but still cheaper than replacing the whole dashboard!

Otherwise google 'pixel repair' in the UK and a few others will come up. A friend has got hold of a pdf with instructions how to fix them yourself. It seems straightforward enough once you have the unit out. He is doing his BMW this weekend so i'm going to see if a self-repair is viable or not! Will let you know the results and if it works post the instructions here.
