    Hi there everyone.

I am quite new to this site but i have had a keen interest in many of the 'battery' posts recently.

I have had my 3.2 avant for about 3 months now and the car has always had poor starting in the morning or after a long period not driven.

Battery was only reading 11.8v, so 1st thing i changed was that with the same make battery and i think more CCA. (110) . Still poor starting.

Next i had the alternater changed because that was reading a charging rate of 13.8v. This was quite expensive because of the 5 hours labour to remove front bumper etc. Still poor starting.

I then took the car to an Audi Specialist twice but both times i was told no fault was found even after leaving overnight.

I have put up a few post on here and told to unplug various fuses which i have done but all without much difference.

I then took the car to an Auto Electrian but he was unable to fix the problem either.

So the only place left was the Main Dealer which TBH i was trying to avoid.

I left the car with them and was told i needed to code the battery to the battery monitor and as there was no code on the battery that i supplied then they where unable to do this. The price of the new battery plus coding was £214. The battery i supplied that was the same one cost me £80. I said to the girl on reception was she sure that this was the problem and after consulting with the technician, it was, so even though i was sceptical i agreed.

I collect the car and after leaving overnight. Guess what? The battery has got less charge in it than the one i fitted. Obviously i am getting a bit p--sed off by this time.
I return the car to the Dealer and gave them the TSB reguarding the Dead Battrey problem. They call me back next day to say that the original technician should have checked for this first without changing the battery over. They said it will be 2-3 hours to update the SW on the MMI, but as they have made a mistake then they would not charge me anything for update.

Anyway after all this faffing about for nearly 3 months i think this has solved the problem of the discharging battery.

I know a few other people have had a similar problem and i thank them for all there help. I am glad i was pointed in the direction of the TSB so that i could help the Dealer to sort it out.

    Cheers lads.

    (Sorry for length of post)
