my audi 80 1.9 tdi 1Z engine seems to developed a new problem the last few days. at 2k to 2.2k revs usualy in 4th or 5th gear the car wont accelrate any more, after a few seconds there is alot of smoke and then she will accelerate further. what is causing this?

is it the injectors and injector pump?

Hi, i have the same problem with the same engine, i have checked all the pipes around the turbo area, they are fine, i have replaced the fuel filter & checked all fuel lines no problems there, i changed the oil & filter & you guessed it no change, my fault is intermittent & 2 days ago the instrument cluster (rev counter, speedo, fuel gauge, temp & dashboard lights) failed but the car seemed to run better?? i checked the fusebox & fuse 12 had blown, i replaced it with another 15 amp & the dashboard sprang back into life until i put the car into reverse & the fuse blew again!!! after reading for symptons on this site i removed the trunking around the left hand hinge of the tailgate & found 6 out of 10 wires were completly knackered, i spliced them back, replaced the fuse, put it in reverse & it worked a treat. i then did 120mile round trip & the car ran a lot better, there is still a slight flatspot after changing gear but i would say it's 70 percent better. also i have been using shell V power for the last 4 tankfulls & this has immproved the performance noticeably. if by the time you read this you have solved the problem, please let me know how you did this. Cheers

The first thing to check is the short rubber hose that connects to the inlet pipe on top of the turbo unit. This hose can develop
a split underneath it causing poor running conditions

Hi again, disconect the vaccum pipe that pushes onto the egr valve & should sort it, it did for me.
