    Hi,
I'm new to the forum having just bought an '04 Allroad LE 2.5Tdi. I'm looking forward to making a start on the 'fettling' process to bring it up to scratch the first job of which is to try and replace the lid on the centre armrest which has snapped off from the plastic hinges.
How do I disassemble the armrest so as to get the hinges of a replacement lid in to their locating holes or is it possible to force the plastic hinge pins in to the locating holes diagonally without snapping them in the process, or do I have to replace the entire armrest assembly and if so how does it come out ?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated and apologies in advance for what is likely to be a deluge of questions in the coming weeks !

Hi, I recently bought my RS6 C5 and had the same little problem.

After a search on Ebay I found a replacement one from China for £12.99 delivered.

I have had a little look and the seller I used currently has one for sale. Here is the item number for you to check out '290813528866'.

They are a straight fit and look like factory. Takes less than 5 mins to fit.

    Good luck!

    Brilliant ! I've just ordered one !
I'd seen similar available from Hong Kong but was dubious about fit and quality but by hearing from someone who has actually bought and fitted one, then that was all I needed to hear.

Thanks for the quick response - I'll let you know how I get on when it arrives !

sitting in the rear seat, pull out the centre air vents and in there you will seee the nut holding down the arnrest to the floor

Cheers Andy for the advice. I'm going for the replacement lid option for starters and if that fails then I'll replace the whole lot.

I was dubious too but it was only £12.99 so was keen to see how good it was. The only difference I could see was that the factory one was glossy. The replacement fitted spot on.

    Glad I could help.

How did you get the hinge pins in to the sides of the armrest without snapping them ? Or is it self explanatory once you have the new one to hand and start jiggling it about ?

p.s. I'm a Le Mans veteran of 12 years (watching, not driving unfortunately) I see from your avatar that you're a fan - might see you there sometime :-)

It is a little fiddly and some care needs to be taken but quite easy. All you have to do is carefully squeeze the legs when installing it. You will manage no problem.

Fixed mine with some 2mm black glazing packers- cut to shape- locating holes drilled and superglued on. 3 years later- still ok.
(didn't know about the chinky replacement then though)

Unbelievably, it turned up today after only just over a week !
For £12 it's fantastic. Trimmed a little bit of flash from the plastic hinges and fitted in 2 mins ! The finish is more matt than the original but perfectly acceptable.
Thanks Big Aln for the tip off
