    hi all,

    i have a 2009 MK6 Golf 1.4 TSI SE 122PS Manual.
In Jan 2011 the turbo went and I got it replaced under warranty. A little while after the replacement (roughly mar/apr) I noticed a wet patch where I park my car on the driveway. I looked into and it was the coolant leaking (photos attached are from a few days ago). I've taken it to vw twice I think (middle of last year may/june), they've done pressure tests and looked around and they said there is nothing leaking. I left it at that. But it didn't leak that much or as often. couple of months after that it started leaking again (july/aug) that's when I found out about some liquid that can be poured into the coolant that will seal leaks. This helped for a few months. We're now around oct/nov and it's started to leak again. Few days ago I took the car to a local vw specialist in Peterborough and they found that some of the water pipes around the car engine was not sealed properly from a prior job this was the cause of the leaks. They've reseated the pipes and pressure tested and gave the car back to me yesterday saying it's all fixed. I have noticed this morning that it's still leaking little bit - but this may be from an over flow tray (if there is such a thing) so I've decided to give it a few days and continue my normal commutes to see what happens

    (1) I want to know if the replacing the turbo has any impact on coolant leak?
    (2) if a yes to number 1, is still VW responsibility to fix the problem, surely there is some warranty on the turbo replacement
    (3) Any other suggestions how to fix this issue?

    Kind Regards

PS the car is out of warranty now.

they must have disturbed something whilst fitting the turbo
if it wasnt leaking before i would keep taking it back untill they sort it
am i right in thinking your turbo is water cooled seen as its a petrol

that's when I found out about some liquid that can be poured into the coolant that will seal leaks.

personally i wouldn't have used that stuff

If you had the turbo replaced under warranty in 2011 and now you've noticed a leak since then its a bit long in time considering you took it back a few months after to have this leak investigated but they found nothing.

Those pics don't really show anything apart from you have a leak that drips on the floor. You have two options now its out of warranty. Investigate where this leak is coming from if its an hose or joint then get the parts and fix it yourself. Or you take it back to the dealer and say its still leaking and get them to fix it but you will be charged.

I would take it back to the independent who did it last and get them to sort it, you obviously paid for the work you had done so take it straight back and tell them its still leaking

is it deff coolant leaking, do you need to top up the water in the expansion cap
plus the color of the leaking fluid looks brown and seen as its only just been repaired i would expect the color to be much cleaner?

it will only overflow if you have filled it up too much

ive had water dripping before sometimes it can come from the air con rad or sometimes ive seen it dripping after ive topped up the washer bottle

Check around the coolant pump area as these are quite common for leaks - it is driven by the aux belt towards the rear of the engine. You will need to look from underneath whilst pressure testing and look for drip trails down the engine cover.
