MPG on A6 2.0 TDI DPF - on a good run is 32mpg!

Is there a simple way or checks I can make to improve my MPG?

I had a long run yesterday circa 350 motorway miles, using 49 litres (I left with a full tank and returned straight to the pump).
Dashboard computer said it was 39.7mpg.

I have heard of remapping and chips, but not sure if they are a gimmick or actually worth looking into.

Its an A6, 2007, 2.0l 140 DSG, DPF, around 100k on the clock.

Its due a service and was going to get the oil in the DSG changed, but I cant imagine it will suddenly hit a higher figure.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated

Your car isn't DSG .. It's multitronic which is very fuel thirsty so I think that figure is correct or near enough it.

When was it last serviced etc?

sorry, yes multitronic.

I was serviced in July, just before a trip to France, I think it has a couple of hundred due but was going to book it in this or next week.
I dont use it every day, so it usually is more 6 monthly than 12k or something of the like.

I am sure I used to get upper 40's when the car was newer on a long run, but didnt take a lot of notice as I was paid a decent mileage rate, but I get 14p at the moment, and its costing 19.5p a mile (I think, maths not the strong point really)
