Hi, can anyone give me an idea of workshop hours for a full camshaft replacement/thermostat/water pump/belts on a V6 engine. (code AKE)
I'm guessing the total cost will be around £1600 with a set of cams all parts etc. am I close?

Also, can anyone recommend a good indy garage round the Lichfield/Burton area that knows the allroad?

I'm tempted to stick the car on a carrier and send it up to Crasher...

Might well be worth it for the piece of mind in knowing the job will be done right! I'd certainly drop him a PM for a quote if I were you, see where you stand.

£1600 is not a lot of money especially as quality parts are over £1100... It takes 2 days minimum to get the cams and full belts done... This is the last i've done:

Big thanks to Chris for getting my car sorted last minute during the festive season. Went to see Chris when it started making some very strange metallic scraping noises. Chris popped the rocker covers off and found one of the rocker arms had come out. The useless garage I used before used a mixture of new cams, with new and old top-end parts and over time had started to eat itself. The auxiliary belt tensioner arm was also coming off and was eating a crescent shaped groove into the front of the car.

Chris sourced the parts from Germany. All legit genuine parts with a 3year warranty. Including the blackened rocker arms (surface treated). I am taking it easy for a bit. Letting everything bed-in fully before enjoying the torque again. Borrowed a Toyota Corolla 1.6 VVTi which is gutless. The mad thing is I am getting better fuel economy in my allroad (nearly 2tonnes) than the Corolla (1.3tonnes).

Adamss24 - Many thanks for the pics (and your previous support). Totally agree with you re costs - £1600 is easily lost with all the parts alone! Now I know who to come to if I ever need new cams - though I would hesitate if it was for an alloy refurb!
