Just got my first Audi yesterday - an '02 A4 1.9 TDI (130). One of the niggly issues I need to fix is the driver's door not working with the central locking (either from the remote or the central locking switch inside the car). All the other doors lock from the remote and the central locking switch. The drivers door and all the other doors lock when you turn the key in the door. It's the same situation with unlocking the door.

I know this is a common problem and I done a search before posting this, but I couldn't find any threads with the info I needed. The previous owner told me that the wiring loom to the drivers door was replaced before, as was the controller for the electric window in the drivers door. The central locking was apparently working fine after this was all done and the issue with the driver's door locking only appeared recently.

What I need to know is: Where is the first place to check the wires for breaks etc and how do I access the wiring inside the door? Is there anything else worth trying? I can't imagine that a blown fuse or anything would cause JUST the drivers door not to lock/unlock, but I guess it's worth a try.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and if anyone knows of an existing thread that has the info I need, feel free to post a link to this thread, rather than repeating the information.

    Thanks in advance.

i just had my door apart today because of broken wires in the rubber boot between the door and the body of the car. the rubber boot comes off easily and you can pull it back towards the door and check the wires, i found 3 broken. to repair them i took the door card off and removed the speaker, then you can unclip the wiring loom and pull them through to repair the damaged.
    hope this helps

Do all the lights on teh door light up correctly? Does the windo work? I had this issue and nothing worked - turned out to be the ground cable in the rubber boot in the door.

@ Quattro Fan - Are there instructions anywhere online on how to take the door card off and access the wiring behind it?

Everything else works on the drivers door - window controls (for both front windows), mirror controls etc. it's just the lock on the drivers door that's causing the issue.

To take off the door card is easy. Pop the cover off under the doorle and remove the screws. Remove the screws from the bottom of the door, and pop the trim (aluminium in my car) and there are screws under there. Then the card is on poppers. Just pop it offf and you in the door.

ther is a video on youtube of a guy in the US replacing a window regulator, search for AUDI A4 WINDOW REGULATOR, the guy is doing the job on the passenger door of a B6 A4. there you can see exactly how the door card comes off.

Happy days. I had found one for a B7, but couldn't find any for the B6, so this is useful. Hopefully it's dry after work this evening so I can try to get it fixed.

good luck man, only took me 1.5hrs to take it apart fix it, put it all back together. just dont forget to reconnect the door handle cable, as i did, most anoying. and leave the window up as it makes it easier to get to the wiring behind the speaker.
